The Orlu Regional Assembly (ORAUSA), a Diaspora organization comprising indigens of Orlu zone resident in the United States of America have concluded their 2023 annual Convention held in Baltimore, Maryland USA from June 21 to June 25, 2023.
The convention which was the 23rd in their series had about 900 delegates from their 20 active affiliates within the USA and other special guests from other countries including Nigeria.
Declaring the convention open, the ORAUSA national president Dr Uzo Unegbu thanked God for journey mercies as he welcomed delegates and their special guests pointing out that their 2023 convention would offer them another opportunity to deliberate on vital issues relating to their commitment towards their core objectives of promotion of health care, education, technology and women/youths development and empowerment.
At the convention plenary sessions, the House of Delegates resolved to continue and improve upon their programs centered towards humanitarian services to the less privileged and needy in Orlu Senatorial Zone
It consequently approved the continued funding for their major programs and projects which include the annual Medical Mission, Orlu Homeland Summit, Youth Development, Political enlightenment through ORA- PAC and Micro Finance.
The ORAUSA 2023 convention also witnessed the election of new executive to pilot the affairs of the organization from 2023 – 2025 during which Dr Uzo Unegbu was re elected as national president and Prince Charles U Duru re-emerged as vice president.
In the same vein, Mazi Austin Ofoha was returned to office as national general secretary as well as other officers who made it to the Executive Committee through the organization’s transparent electoral process.
The Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Senator Hope Odidika Uzodinma was ably represented at the ORAUSA 2023 Convention by a high powered delegation led by His Royal Majesty, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya who was accompanied by other distinguished personalities including the Imo State Hon. Commissioner for Works, Chief Ralph Nwosu, Imo State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Chief Cosmas Nwabueze Maduba and Chief G.G Iheka.
The former governor of Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa was also in attendance in his capacity as a patron of the organization.
One of the highpoint of the 2023 ORAUSA convention was a well written goodwill message from Governor Uzodinma presented to the organization in which the governor pledged continued support of ORAUSA programs by the Imo State Government.
The Imo State governor used the medium to announce the release of the land allocated to ORAUSA in Orlu with immediate approval of additional plots of land there at no extra cost to the organization for construction of their proposed multi purpose center.
In his response, the president of ORAUSA, Dr Uzo Unegbu expressed the excitement of his organization for the governor’s kind gestures towards ORAUSA since he assumed office as governor stressing that the generality of their membership have taken cognizance of the benevolence noting that they would continue to partner with the governor in his efforts to develop Imo State and wished him well in his re election campaign.
The delegates and their families who attended the convention showered ecomiums on the Baltimore affiliate president, Nze Andrew Emeka Obiefule and his Executive for a fantastic hosting as they pray and look forward to the Boston 2024 convention.
