The people of Obazu autonomous community in Mbaitoli Local Government of Imo state have insisted that Barr. Mike Azoroh remains their duly appointed and accepted President General.
According to them, Azoroh was installed as Interim President General of the autonomous Community on 14th July 2023 by the Sole Administrator of Mbaitoli LGA, Chief Hon. Hamilton Chinasa Opara JP.
They disclosed this on Wednesday when they stormed the Imo State House of Assembly to protest against the purported plans of their representative Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie to impose their former President General Iheanyi Abaekwume on Obazu Town Union.
Inscriptions on some of the placards carried by the people include; Abaekwume should leave the Obazu Women alone; Abaekwume wants to be Life President not in Obazu, We hail the 3R Govt of the Shared Prosperity for bringing peace to our community through our proud son, Hon. Chinasa Oparah, August Meeting of the Women of Obazu as led by the Authentic President, Dame Priscilla Nosiri must hold, Abaekwume was indicted by Imo State Govt White paper as GM of OCDA and supposed to be sanctioned, We have accepted Barr, Mike Azoroh as new PG of Obazu, Obazu people will not accept a PG who wants to depose our revered Eze, Abaekwume tenure ended in 2012.
According to the letter signed by the Obazu Community Interim P.G, Mike Azoroh and Ogbonna Ohalete(Secretary), it holds that “the Obazu autonomous community are here today to protest and also report to the Imo State House of Assembly the action and inaction of Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie, the House Member representing Mbaitoli State Constituency and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie for instigating trouble in our autonomous community Obazu Mbieri.”
“Obazu Town Union is a community that is peaceful, law abiding and supports His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma’s second term bid. These people are trying to impose a President General who has become very unpopular and whose tenure has ended since December 26th, 2021 by the constitutions of Obazu autonomous community and in line with the Imo State autonomous community and allied matter Gazette of 2020.”
“The said President General Iheanyi Abaekwume has constantly disrespected our traditional ruler, caused disaffection amongst the people, divided the Obazu Women Association, unilaterally removed a duly elected woman leader and factionalized the youths. It might interest you that the Sole Administrator of Mbaitoli L.G.A, Chief Hon. Hamilton Chinasa Opara, JP has already installed an interim government in the Autonomous Community since 4th July, 2023.”
“We call on the Imo State Government to please caution the above named persons that infiltrate in our community to cause breach of peace and order in Obazu Mbieri which the Sole Administrator has
already resolved and the people of Obazu are pleased with his intervention and the good action to restore peace in autonomous communities in Mbaitoli L.GA. If there is chaos or anarchy in the community, Hon. Chief Innocent Ikpamezie and Hon. Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie should be held responsible. We look forward to your prompt action on this request.” They requested.
