St  Linus Secondary /Primary /Nursery Schools Celebrate 11th Biannual Interhouse Sports Event

The  11th biannual  Interhouse  sports  competition  of St Linus Secondary /Primary /Nursery Schools, Awo-Omamma, Oru East  L GA  Imo Statte was held  on Saturday, June, 2023 at the  schools  sports  complex.

The  sports  event earlier  started  with  a football  match  which  was won by  the Pink  house  sponsored  by Nze Onyekachi Okwudire.

Declaring  the  event  open., the  director  of the  school, Dr Linus Akuneme welcomed  all the  invited  guests  for their  love  of the  school  and  sponsorship  despite  the  petrol  subsidy and cash  swap.

Dr. Akuneme told  the  large  gathering   that  the  event  was one 0f the activities  lined up  to  regmark  the  silver  jubilee of  the school  which its grand  finale  wound  come up  in December 2023.

commenting  further, the  Director asserted  that  education is the  training of  a total  man physically,  mentally  and spirituality,  hence the  physical  training  is obtained  via  sporting  activities  and this  has led to the  school  management  organising  sports  for  the  children  despite  the  financial  implications.

He enunciated  the  benefits of  sports  by saying  that  it helps  human  beings  stay in good  shape  and encourages  healthy  habits,  helps  them organise time  and  inspires teamwork,  help children  acquire leadership  skills   and  helps in reducing  blood  sugar levels. Other  benefits  include  regulating  blood  pressure,  strengthening  the  hearts,  lungs  and help  keep  the  arteries and  veins  clean and  above  all, sports  improve  self esteem with  the balance of  enjoyment and  challenge  that  make  games  amazing  tools  for learning.

Dr Akuneme went further  to suggest  some of  the  ways  people  can help  themselves  in acquiring  healthy  living  without  going  to gymnasium.  These include  simple  walking,  climbing  upstairs,  throwing  ball  with  mate or child,  sweeping  the  compounds  and carrying packages.

The  competition  was also an opportunity  to fish  out  22 good  players  for the  five  houses that  competed, the  director  noted, stressing  that all the participants  in the event  came  first.

Answering  questions  from  newsmen on her observation about  the  event  and  positions  given Mrs Onyiyechi Ishiguzo,Dean of Studies  maintained  that  what  mattered  most  was the  skills  exhibited  by the  pupils and students  not position.  She thanked all that  graced the  occasion.

The event featured  football  match , match past, calisthenics, cultural  dance,  relay race, picking race, and  dress race. At the  event were  the  sponsors  which include Mr Young Dan Nworie, (Blue  house 0,  Nze Onyekachi Okwudire (Pink house), Mr Patrick Ugwumadu (Red house) Mr / Mrs Ishiguzo (Yellow  house) and the  White  house). Others include parents,  the  clergy,  and  spectators.
