The Member representing Ihitte-Uboma State Constituency in the 10th House,Rt.Hon.Chike Olemgbe has emerged the Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly,IMHA even as the Member representing Nwangele State Constituency,Rt.Hon.Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu was elected the Deputy Speaker.
Their emergence followed the proclamation of the 10th House Assembly, opened by the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma.
The ball was set rolling at the House of Assembly Complex by the Clerk of the House, Barr.Chinelo Emeghara who presided over the inauguration.
The emergence of Olemgbe as the Speaker, followed his nomination by the Member representing Ideato South State Constituency, Hon.Vitalice Azodo, seconded by the Member representing Owerri Municipal,Hon.Obodo Ugochukwu Augustine.
The nomination for the Deputy Speaker, was moved by the Member representing Ahiazu Mbaise State Constituency, Rt.Hon.Samuel Otuibe, seconded by the Member representing Isu State Constituency,Hon.Modestus Obiaziem Osakwe.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Speaker, Olemgbe expressed his readiness to work for the betterment of the State.
He stated that the 10th House will not fail the people of the State as it’s determined to promulgate laws that will lead the State to greater heights.
The Speaker, further informed that the House will ensure that laws that are no longer in line with present realities will be amended,if necessary will be removed for effective legislation.
The House was later adjourned to June 29 to enable the newly elected members prepare for the main legislative sessions.
