…Thank him for paying unverified workers
Workers of Imo State have lauded Governor Hope Uzodinma’s plan to constitute government/labour joint committee for the implementation of the payment of pension gratituities.
They also lauded him for paying salary of unverified workers in the state, saying the act is clear pointer to his godliness and humaneness.
These were some of the highpoints of the workers address on the occasion of the 2023 Workers May Day Celebration held in Owerri the Imo State capital.
Reading the address Comrade Basil Iwu, Chairman Joint Public Service Negotiating Council in the state, said the day is set aside globally and nationally, to celebrate workers for their contributions and sacrifice towards nation building.
He recalled that in the country the day is used to remember the heroes of Iva Valley Massacre of 18 November, 1949, who were workers with some of them from Imo State who sacrificed their lives for better working conditions for Nigerian workers.
Comrade Iwu who commended Imo workers for their untiring sacrifices towards the development of the state, amid challenging working conditions, added that the present administration of Gov Hope Uzodinma deserves commendation for doing so much to improve the welfare and service condition for workers.
He enumerated the numerous achievements of the governor to include approving gratuity payment and also the setting up of a joint government and labour committee for its implementation; as well as approval for the payment of salary to unverified workers in the state.
Other feats he credited to him are prompt payment of salary and pension to workers and pensioners, provision of free transportation for workers, massive renovation of the state secretariat complexes for provision of conducive environment, construction of quality and durable roads, and restoration of peace and security to the state.
Comrade Iwu further lauded him over promotion of workers across board after over eight years of stagnation, especially his directive to the head of service that issuance of Gen 35 must be completed within seven days, appointment of labour highly experienced labour leader as Special Adviser on Labour Matters.
Others include approval of sixty five years of age and forty years of service for Imo teachers, approval of 1%Check Off Dues to Nigeria Union of Pensioners, and payment of uncaptured pensioners and workers, payment of 13th month salary bonus for 2021 and 2022 and provision of official vehicles for permanent secretaries of ministries in the state.
The labour leader noted that all the numerous achievements recorded under the Gov Uzodinma administration came through peaceful dialogue which organized labour has adopted in its dealings with the government, stressing that they will continue on that path instead of embarking on strikes which ultimately do not yield much benefits.
He lauded the governor for his large heart and benevolent spirit towards Imo workers and people generally, adding that the highly elated workers have resolved to adopt him as their candidate for the forthcoming election.
