…Says: Party’ll take over Douglas House
“I won’t take this honour, privilege for granted.”
The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu has emerged the candidate of the party for the scheduled November 11, 2023 Imo governorship election.
At a well attended primary election held at the PDP state office in Owerri, Senator Anyanwu popularly called Samdaddy, polled a total of 802 votes to emerge winner in a contest where he was the sole aspirant.
A breakdown of the result of the exercise according to the Chairman of the Electoral Panel, Rt Hon Kenneth Okon, showed that out of a total of 915 delegates, 853 were accredited for the exercise, 21 votes were invalid, seven voted no, while 23 abstained.
In his acceptance speech, an elated Senator Anyanwu expressed gratitude to God and Imo PDP faithful for the success of the primary election. He also thanked the state chairman of the party, Chief Charles Ugwu and the screening committee of primary for a hitch-free primary.
The Imo PDP gubernatorial candidate assured that he would not take the honour and privilege given to him to fly the party’s flag as its standard bearer for granted.
Senator Anyanwu lamented the hardship, suffering and insecurity being experienced by Imo people presently, recalling that the state was once a peaceful and prosperous state.
Appreciating Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha for his display of sportsmanship in voluntarily withdrawing from the exercise, Anyanwu said the former Imo governor’s action has portrayed him as a good party man.
He also vowed to return Imo to its former glory as a peaceful and prosperous state.
The State Chairman of Imo PDP, Chief Ugwu and some members of the State Working Committee of the party including party faithful from the 27 local government areas of Imo, the media among others, were present during the primary election.
