It was indeed a jubilation galore all over Orji Uratta in particular and the entire Owerri North LGA on Sunday, December 3, 2022 when the people of the area trooped out enmass at Orji town Primary School to witness the formal kickoff of a football tournament and campaign flagoff of an illustrous son, Hon. Udochukwu Johnwayne Ogumba who is a strong contender for the seat of Owerri North State Constituency in Imo State House of Assembly in next year’s general elections.
Udochukwu Ogumba, popularly called ‘Young’ who is the sole sponsor of the football tournament tagged, “Owerri North Unity Cup” performed the kickoff ceremony simultaneously alongside the traditional ruler of Orji autonomous Community, HRH Eze (Dr) Innocent Opara ( Eze Ugo l l).
The tournament kickoff and the campaign unveiling took place at the same time as planned and a well conceived idea by the LP candidate for Imo State House of Assembly seat to represent Owerri North State Constituency, Hon Udochukwu Ogumba and his campaign council members in a time like this that requires to reawake the sleeping environment back to social activities for a better reintegration of the youths in the area.
Udochukwu Ogumba, out of his humanitarian services has been donating and sponsoring football tournament for the youths of Orji Uratta in the past seven years, without any political gains attached therein.
And other selfless services he has been rendering to his Constituents and decided to extend such gestures to the 12 wards of Owerri North LGA as the time requires now.
He has shown capacity in different aspects of his selfless services people and he does such with joy.
Hon Udochukwu OGUMBA who could not hold back his joy, while performing the eventful doubled ceremony simultaneously with the traditional ruler of Orji Autonomous Community, Eze (Dr) Innocent Opara ( Eze Ugo l l) said he decided to sponsor the football tournament in this manner this year at this season in order to keep the youths busy at this period by extending it to accommodate the entire participants from the 12 wards in Owerri North LGA, aimed at discovering young talents among the youths as well promote brotherliness among the people and other inhabitants of the area.
Hon. Udochukwu Ogumba who spoke less of his political ambition, which he is already executing and now intensified with the formation of his campaign council, instead emphasized more on how to make the youths to be more productive, unified among themselves and to keep them busy from indulging into political thuggery for any disgruntled politician in this period of campaign and electioneering.
His words,”This football tournament introduced this time around in our LGA, was designed to keep our youths off from being used by any politician for their selfish interest after which they will be dumped to continue to wallow in idleness, hence this competition will keep them busy throughout the campaign/ electioneering period.
Also contributing, the Labour Party Chairman in Owerri North LGA, Hon. Akakpo expressed happiness on the capacity shown by the incoming legislature for Owerri North, Hon. Udochukwu Ogumba for sponsoring the football tournament single handedly, which he noted was capital intensive on this wider scope across the entire 12 wards participants.
The party chairman challenged others to emulate the footprints of Ogumba to find ways of engaging the youths in order to make them become resourceful.
He noted that, of a truth , Hon Udochukwu Ogumba as we popularly call him ‘Young’ has demonstrated in no small measure his love and friendship with the youths of Owerri North;
No wonder, he is a youth Ambassador. He averred.
In his remark, the royal father of Orji Autonomous Community whose dormain was where the kick off of the unprecedented event took place, at the play ground of Orji Town Primary School, described Udochukwu Ogumba as a good son, a great son of the soil who has shown capacity in all the activities of his Community.
He prayed God to continue to ensure his safety and to lead him to victory come 2023 when the state’s assembly election will be held.
The high point of the epoch making event was the football engagement between Egbu ward and Emekuku ward 1 youths who went for a cracker, as the football lovers troped out to have a glance of the youths who show cased their talent to the delight of the watchers. Although the game ended in a goalless draw at the of the last whistle.
Those who graced the event were, all the Owerri North LGA Labour Party executives & leaders, Orji ward LP executives, party members, Udochukwu Ogumba Coordinators from the 12 wards, members of Ogumba Campaign Council led by the Chairman, Ambassodor Morgan Ike and the Campaign DG, Hon Vincent Onyeulor.
Others include, friends, support groups of Ogumba and the public.
