…Says: INEC has admitted the facts
Following the mind-boggling revelations made by the CUPP through its spokesman, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, upending the dastardly plot to derail the 2023 general election through a well orchestrated plan to compromise the voters register across the country, some public commentators say they have noticed series of coordinated actions or perhaps fight-backs by the Government of Imo state, designed to diminish the import of the exposition.
Dr. Ako Eziefule observed that there has been an all-out frenetic effort by handlers of Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state to try and ‘discredit, kill and bury the revelation’ but the spilled can of worms has remained a major talking point for weeks on end.
His words: “The Omuma Magic exposition in spite of all the arsenals unleashed by state actors, seems to have assumed a life of its own and is spreading like wildfire and stoking major conversations across the country both online and offline.
“It is even worsened by the fact that what the Imo State Government House is so desperately trying to defend, the relevant electoral authority, INEC, has already admitted with hard facts in one of their press releases, though with reassurances that a clean-up is underway.
So, it should be noted that INEC did not deny the assertions of the Opposition Coalition, as a matter of fact, it admitted to the alleged discrepancies in the voters’ register even in Imo state.
In INEC’s press release of Wednesday, 15th September, 2022, the Commission wrote in part: “For instance, in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo state, where the Commission allegedly registered ineligible persons, 3316 ineligible registrants have so far been invalidated and the process is still ongoing.”
Reacting to the press release, an Owerri-based public commentator, Peterclaver Uzowuihe had earlier said: “The fact that INEC has already detected as much as 3,316 in Oru East and that the process is still ongoing is enough cause for concern. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere should be commended for rare patriotism and the courage to speak truth to power.
“The sudden frantic effort to malign and defame the person of Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere points to the fact that he touched a sore point in the plot to derail Nigeria’s election in 2023.”
In his part, Dr. Ako Eziefule maintained that truth is resilient and cannot just be wished away or thrown overboard without repercussions.
“Just like the Bible, kill the truth, bury the truth, it will rise again on the third day to taunt you.
“So it didn’t come as a surprise when a few handymen of the Governor in the State Parliament were assembled by the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Amara Iwuanyanwu in the name of Orlu Caucus of the Parliament to impress the governor.
“The subject of their press conference was Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere and CUPP! And that didn’t come as a surprise.
“As a matter of fact, it was the fourth press conference by agents of the Imo state government in the last 48 hours, in their desperate effort to diminish the strong and unassailable findings and argument of the courageous spokesman of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) in Nigeria.
“From press conferences held at Rockview Hotel; Exco Chamber of the Government House; Ibis Hotel; and the Deputy Speaker’s Lodge, they were all struggling to ‘sandpaper’ a very bad narrative. It was a swim against the tide – a futile adventure. The more press conferences they convened, the more they unwittingly conveyed to the public that they were the culprits.
“It seems, Uzodinma’s crowd of media handlers make ‘a kill’ with every one of these unproductive press conferences (the more, the merrier), when professionalism would have taught them that sometimes, ‘silence is the best media strategy’.
“It is regrettable that supposedly honourable men would elect to embrace infamy by attempting to defend and rationalize what would have become a massive electoral heist of historical proportion.
“Nigerians have been bitten once, now they are many times shy, and would prefer an Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere who will raise the alarm once a loophole or any other bug is detected in our electoral architecture, than any legislative Chambers known for soft-soaping truth or prevaricating on the core issues that matter.”
