The founder of st Hermanguild health foundation, Nigeria/ Australia Mr Ifeanyi Hermanguild Uzomanze has called on governments at different levels to pay more attention to persons with mental health challenges in the country who today has an increased population of sixthy million.
Mr Ifeanyi Hermanguild Uzomanze made the call while addressing the press after a successful mental health education and Free medical outreach carried out by his foundation during the last August women meeting held in the state. Women from 30 communities across the state who attended were lectured on stress and anger management, early warning signs, intervention and self-care.
Mr Uzomanze who hails from Nguru Umuaro Ngor Okpala said he brought foundation home to assist nigerians who’s increasing mental health challenges is alarming. He said people will benefit from the support and outreach activities of the foundation. He informed that the Hermanguild foundation through it’s team of dedicated volunteers have organized many seminars, programs and outreaches adding that such programs have opened the eyes families to know that mental illness is not a taboo but a sickness like high blood pressure, low blood pressure, ashtma, diabetes which the sufferers can live as long as they follow their doctor’s prescription and avoid the triggers.
The chairman said the foundation which carries out it’s activities ranging from sensitization programs, seminars, mental health education, celebration of world mental health day, psychological support including counseling, referrals among others has branches in Imo, Rivers, Cross river, Lagos and Abuja. He informed me press that a group of psychologists and other professionals like doctors,nurses, psychiatrist doctors from across the country volunteer to assist in carrying out the programs of the foundation.
St Hermanguild foundation is a nonprofit oriented organisation set out to intervene in the mental health of the needy. The founder, an Australian based psychologist from Imo state thanked the wife of the Imo state governor, Barr Mrs Deborah Chioma Uzodinma , the chairperson, association of counseling psychologist of Nigeria, Dr Ann Ukachi Mandukwe, the SHF group and other professionals who have been helping to drive the goals of the foundation.
