The Association of South East Town Union , ASETUe, has expressed disappointed over the outcome of the just concluded primary election of Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) and All Progressive Congress Party (APC) for failing to field a presidential candidates of South East extraction.
The group which stated this in a release signed by the National President, Chief Emeka Diwe, and made available to the press, however praised the delegates from Ebonyi State for voting hundred percent for Igbo aspirants in the APC national presidential primary convention.
The group in their release described those Igbo delegates who voted for aspirants from other zones as saboteurs who have been confined to Hall of Shame.
The release reads: ” the party primaries have also exposed the real saboteurs in Igbo land. These are the Igbo delegates who were chosen to represent Ndigbo but went there to fest their nest. They sold out their igbo brothers and voted for aspirants of other tribes”.
According to the release, “The 5 South Eastern States had about 389 delegates/ votes. Of these number, Ebonyi State had 39 delegates, Imo 100 , Anambra 100, Abia 100 and Enugu 50 votes. Out of these number, only 40 votes went to South East aspirants. It is important to mention that 39 of the 40 votes came from Ebonyi State delegates. Engr Dave Umuahi got 38 votes while Dr Ogbonanya Onu had one vote. The other one vote went to Hon. Emeka Nwajiuba,
The question is who did other Igbo delegates voted for? Certainly aspirants from other zones”.
ASETU said that as a union that feels the direct pulse of the grassroots, she is working hard with the PGs of various communities to expose the saboteurs.
The release reads,” As for those shameless desecrators of their fatherland, we have traditional way of handling such fowlers and desecrators. We therefore call on all the traditional heads and “Aka-ji-Ofors” of Igbo land to do the needful with their Ofo. While calling on the aged Umuada/Umuokpu to do the needful with their hind side.”.
It further noted that there cannot be a better time for Igbo President than now, given the fact that all parties agreed to zoning and that all other zones have had a fair share of the President and Vice President except the South East Zone. More so when the Igbos have made similar concession in the past
