A manufacturer and financial expert, Mr Eziefula Opara has called for downward review of salary and other emoluments of political office holders in the country.
Mr Opara who was an aspirant in the recently conducted Ngor Okpala State Constituency bye election made the call in a statement he issued in Owerri, Imo State capital.
According to him salary and other allowances of political office holders should be slashed by 70%, noting that they do little but receive full salary.
He pointed out that the action will not only make public offices unattractive, but also discourage those who are not public spirited individuals from seeking political offices.
He said it was morally and economically wrong for people to earn salary for work they did not do.
Mr Opara insisted that public offices should be occupied by people who have the interest of the public at heart, not those with mercantile mentality.
He pointed out that money making businesses are carried out in the market and business places, not in government offices, adding that those interested in profit making have no reason to be in government.
Declaring that he is a good governance advocate, Mr Opara posited that all he and other Nigerians are demanding from those holding their mandates at various levels, is nothing but good governance.
