The Lagos State Police Command has declared one Ekeh Festus Osondu wanted for absconding from a correctional centre, where he was serving a jail term.
Making this development public at the commands office in Ikoyi Lagos, yesterday, Tuesday, 1 February,2022, the commands Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, Chief Superintendent of Police,CSP. Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the wanted man escaped from the Apapa Maximum Correctional Centre, where he was serving jail term, for Homosexuality and indulging in acts of obscene homosexuality in the public.
According to the police spokesman, Ekeh Festus Osondu who was a student of the University of Lagos Akoka before his arrest, trial and imprisonment was nabbed with his sexual partner now late at the university “Love Garden”, on the evening of 5 August, 2020, publicly making love.
He disclosed that they were apprehended by some students who were outraged by their obscene act, adding that in the process of arresting them, some students who were outraged by what they were doing started beating and stoning them, leading to the unfortunate death of his partner identified as Samuel Akujobi.
He told newsmen that before police operatives could arrive the scene of the incident on that day, the late Akujobi had already died, while Ekeh Festus Osondu was arrested and taken into custody pending conclusion of investigation into the matter.
He said the command later charged him to court and following diligent prosecution he was convicted on two counts of homosexuality and obscene public sexual act and sentenced to jail term by the Lagos State High Court.
Regrettably, however, the spokesman noted that he escaped from prison on the evening of 5 December 2021 and is yet to be rearrested almost two months after his escape.
He stressed that the command is still neck deep into investigation, of trying to unravel the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, with the intention of rearresting him and sending him back to the correctional centre to serve out his jail term.
He urged members of the public to feel free to come to his office, or any other office in the command to give any information that could help the command in apprehending the fleeing fugitive, promising that every information in that regard will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
As part of the measures that could help facilitate his quick apprehension the spokesman said Ekeh Festus Osondu is fair in complexion, about five feet,six inches tall and speaks English and Igbo fluently, even as he noted that he was last seen in the evening of 5 December, 2021.
