Political leaders and some traditional rulers from Orlu, Okigwe and Owerri zones have thrown their weight behind Sen. Hope Odidika Uzodinma to continue as governor of Imo state till 2028.
The leaders addressed newsmen in Owerri, weekend, under the aegis of Orlu Political Consultative Assembly,OPOCA, Owerri Political Leaders Forum,OZOPOLF and Okigwe Political Assembly,OPA including the leadership of Imo Traditional institution and town unions in the three Senatorial zones of the state.
The leaders who were reacting to statements credited to former Imo State Governor, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha at the recently concluded anniversary of “Egbu Declaration” at Egbu Owerri North Local Government Area, accused him of “attempting to overheat the polity and possibly cause a security breach in the state…”
OPOCA, OZOPOLF and OPA leaders equally accused Ihedioha of starting the race before the whistle by allegedly hiding under the said Egbu Declaration “to declare to run for the 2023/24 governorship of Imo State”.
They therefore urged the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, to sanction Ihedioha.
While reiterating their support for the incumbent Governor Uzodinma to run again in 2023 for the governorship and continue as governor till 2028, the groups commended the governor for what they described as “his uncommon courage to defeat insecurity” in Imo.
They further accused Ihedioha of indifference to the prevailing security situation in the state in recent time, and advised him or any person allegedly attempting to instigate crisis or unnecessarily heat-up of the polity to desist from doing so or be prepared to face the wrath of the law.
