In celebration of their operational license as a university and for all they have achieved so far in taking-off as an institution, the Maranatha University on Saturday, April 17, 2021, organized a thanksgiving service with the chancellor of the university/chairman, Board of Trustees, Rev. Chukwuemeka Ngubo, awarding scholarship to the first 3 students from Mgbidi in Oru West LGA that would enroll in the university.
Speaking during the event which opening prayer was said by Bishop Innocent Erimujor, the proprietor of Maranatha University, Pastor Grace Ngubo disclosed that the vision of the university was to build a world class university based on faith and excellence combined with academics, character and fear of God. Pastor Ngubo stated that this would make them good citizens and be internationally acceptable graduates that could compete with their compatriots from other parts of the world.
The chairman, Project Implementation Committee (PIC), Prof. Ogbonnaya Chikwe noted that God had been good to the vision of Marantha University, adding that the founders of the institution had anchored the University on the fear of God to promote the Lordship of Christ.
Brandishing the operational license of the university, the chancellor, Rev. Chukwuemeka Ngubo appreciated all who had stood by him in prayers and also all the members of the project implementation committee, stating that Maranatha University was not about the Ngubo family, but for the whole Mgbidi.
The vice chancellor of the University, Prof. Ogwo E. Ogwo who is a former vice chancellor of Abia State University described the event as special to humanity, observing that the business of a University was dear to God as it is supposed to nurture young people in character which Maranatha espouses.
Ogwo observed that Bishop Stafford Nwaogu was the prayer engine room for the University.
The Vice Chancellor described building a University as serious business, advising people never to despise small beginning.
He stated that the University would go places because of the presence of God in it as a faith-based University, stressing that the prospective students would be fed intellectually and spiritually, which is the basis of character formation.
Assuring that the welfare of the students and staff would be taken care of, Prof. Ogwo promised to implement the vision of the founders of the University.
In his sermon titled, “the light has come”, Bishop Stafford Nwaogu observed that the light in Maranatha University was not an ordinary light but a special one for Mgbidi, Imo State and Nigeria in general.
Bishop Nwaogu said the institution was a light for growth, advancement and creativity to produce quality citizens with ability to maximize their potentials.
