The people of Ukwa/Ngwa political bloc Monday marched through the major streets of Aba to celebrate the electoral victory recorded by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the Aba federal constituency by-election last Saturday.
In what they called “show of force”, one of the organisers, Erondu Erondu Jnr announced a 14-day ultimatum to Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu to produce the contract papers on Aba roads he said was done by the Federal Government to prove his claim, adding if not, “we will mobilise and shut down Abia Central and Abia North”.
During the march which took off from Obikabia junction in Obingwa LGA, terminated at Aba Town Hall, the headquarters of Aba South LGA was like a carnival, where the Ukwa/Ngwa people sent across a message, “Aba people have risen up”.
Addressing the crowd, Hon Darlington Nwokocha who represents Isiala Ngwa North/Isiala Ngwa South federal constituency said the solidarity march was “a show of force” to underline the strength of PDP in Abia State and the fact that Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu is working to the delight of Aba people.
They rejected entirely what they described as an overbearing influence of the Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in Aba Federal Constituency where his immediate junior brother, Nnanna Uzor Kalu represented between 2003 and 2011 and his further attempt to impose his next junior brother, Mascot Kalu at last Saturday bye-election and who lost, failed.
Also speaking at the event, a member of the state House of Assembly Hon Ginger Onwusibe noted that the failure of Kalu to realise his plan is a pointer that the people of Aba “have totally rejected mamacracy”.
He said that the people have come of age politically and would never again be led by the nose by those who do not have the interest of Ngwa people at heart and condemned Sen. Kalu’s claim that the road projects being executed by the Ikpeazu administration in Aba were awarded by the federal government through the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
