The Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Paul Emeziem has condemned the ongoing social unrest in Orlu Zone of the state, saying it is unacceptable and unjustifiable.
This was as he urged the entire citizens of the state to join him in prayers to seek God’s intervention over the security challenge.
It could be recalled that not less than nine people both civilians and military personnel have reportedly loss their lives so far in the clash between the alleged members of Eastern Security Network and the Army.
Also, the state Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma had on Monday declared dusk to dawn curfew in the affected 10 council areas of the state as a measure to curb the menace.
The Speaker told newsmen in Owerri , Monday that the assembly under his watch would support any move by both the state government and the security agencies to apprehend those behind the killings.
According to him, the state under the leadership of Governor Uzodinma has done credibly well to afford good life for the citizens through the provision of democratic dividends.
He added, “our Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma as a respecter of law would not condone acts capable of truncating the existing peace, unity and developmental strives in the state.
“Even as I have prayed the Almighty God to expose those behind this meyhem, I also want to call on the security agencies in the state especially the Commissioner of Police to speedily rise up to this security challenge.”
The Speaker equally urged Imolites especially those in the affected areas to remain calm, law abiding and to corporate with the government on its efforts to restore normalcy and ensure justice to the victims.
He reiterated the commitment of the Assembly to encourage efforts that sustain peace, law and order as well as safeguard the lives and properties of the people in the state.
