Seven lawmakers elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday and Thursday boycotted plenaries at the Imo state House of Assembly complex in Owerri over discrepancies in payment of their salaries and allowances.
Our correspondent also gathered that allowances of the minority leader, deputy minority leader, and and minority whip were not paid by the state government.
The seven PDP lawmakers, Okey Onyekanma, Anyadike Nwosu, Frank Ugboma, Philip Ejiogu, Paschal Okorie, Tochi Okoro and Solomon Anukam accused the state government of playing a dangerous politics.
Our correspondent learnt that the slashed salaries and allowances of the opposition lawmakers were allegedly shared by the lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress.
The opposition lawmakers in a statement on Thursday stated that the state government was clamping down on opposition in the state.
Describing as unlawful, the slashing of their salaries and allowances, the PDP lawmakers said that no antic would stop from speaking truth to power.
The lawmakers demanded that their salaries and allowances be paid to them in full.
When contacted, the House Committee chairman on information, Dominic Ezerioha, said that he was not aware that the allowances of the opposition lawmakers were slashed.
Ezerioha, denied that the slashed allowances of the opposition lawmakers were shared by APC lawmakers.
He said he received the amount he had been getting from the assembly.
According to him, bank statements will show the amount each lawmaker receives.
