Governor Emeka Ihedioha’s Special Adviser (SA) on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Chukwudi Mayor Eze, has said that the rating of Imo as less corrupt state in Nigeria, is an evidence that the Governor is committed to rid Imo State of sharp practices among actors of the state as it used to be in the past administration.
The Special Adviser stated this while interacting with newsmen in Owerri, Tuesday. Mayor Eze, a former Federal lawmaker maintained that Imo State has never had it so good in the area of due process and developmental projects.
According to him, such feat to the quality of persons engaged by governor Emeka Ihedioha in piloting the Rebuild Imo project, adding that the governor has shown exemplary leadership and clearly shows that his mission to bring Imo back is on track.
“It is not surprising that the Bureau rated Imo, a less corrupt state in the federation”, Hon. Mayor enthused.
Eze further noted that his office has used instrumentality of government to block all loopholes through which local government funds are usually siphoned. According to him, it is no longer business as usual, since local governments are not allowed to manage their huge funds without the interference of the state government.
The ex-member of the House of Representatives applauded the governor for his efforts at ensuring that funds for LGAs are used for the purpose for which they are meant, which according to him, is to develop rural areas and take care of the traditional rulers.
We recall that the National Bureau of Statistics recently released its annual corruption index. The report which rates the prevalence of corruption in the 36 States of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory as well as different agencies of government in the country, noted Imo State as the least corrupt state in Nigeria, while Kogi State is rated as the most corrupt, including Gombe State.
