In a bid to promote and encourage entrepreneurship in the areas of science to unveil the galaxy of intellects, academic exhibitions, recent in-depth research to better life and living in the age, the School of Industrial and Applied Science SIAS, has held her first international conference at the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri West, Imo State with the theme “Science and Technopreneurship as tools for National Development”.
Declaring open the maiden conference, Tuesday the rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Dr. Michael Arimanwa expressed his profound delight to have such worthwhile conference that is for the benefit of humanity.
He reaffirmed his joy, that the SIAS which has been lagging behind and has not been able to organize a conference like this, has decided to take up its responsibility as leader of other schools. “I am very happy that somehow the people who were lagging behind not being able to organize conference of such has woken to their responsibility and leadership role”.
The Mbieri born rector stated that there is no way institutions especially a polytechnic as his can be well established in an enviable state without science and engineering noting that science is the bedrock of everything in life. So he urged the school of sciences to always understand and remember the position they occupy to move the polytechnic forward.
In his address of welcome, the Dean, School of Industrial and Applied Science, Mr. Bassey O. Orie really thanked the Rector, Engr. Arimanwa who he described as an indefatigable and digital rector for approving their request for the conference without any hesitation which he also attributed to his keen interest in staff development and research.
He assured success and positive importation of the four-day conference in the life of all participants hoping that the purpose for which the Rector had approved the conference would surely be achieved.
The dean averred that at the end of the technical session, Federal Polytechnic Nekede would be firmly positioned in research and development, encouraging students of the institution mostly the graduating students to be involved in the programme to be abreast of how to do proper research work and have expository understanding of how papers are presented in order to be all-round academics.
The programme featured keynote presentations by different presenters. The presenters were Prof. Nkwam Cornelius Uwaoma, the deputy vice chancellor, academics of Imo State University, Mr. Chukwuemeka Nzeim, DBI and Prof. Sydney I. Onyeagu, NAU, who spoke on the theme of the programme.
