There was unprecedented excitement in Uba Agwa autonomous community in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, over the weekend as the community rolled out the drums to receive Mrs Atiba Frederick Buckman, from United States of America and her team in Uba community to commission a borehole water project which she built for the community through her Non-Governmental Organization, NGO.
Early on that day, the traditional ruler of the community Eze (Hon) Herbert Chima Azubuike, the Ohanyere 1 of Uba Agwa autonomous community, had invited other traditional rulers from across the state, cabinet chiefs, religious leaders, prominent sons and daughters of the community, women and youth, to converge at his palace to give their August visitor, a rousing welcome.
The commencement of the ceremony proper was heralded by a 21-gun salute and the traditional breaking of kola nuts, by Eze Azubike, who prayed for peace, progress and general wellbeing of his subjects, before moving to the water project site in a carnival-like March, for its formal opening and hand-over to the benefitting Uba community.
At the project, Eze Azubuike thanked the people of his community for their efforts in promoting brotherly love, peace and harmony which according to him, contributed to the sitting of the project in their community as no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of crisis.
He thanked the donor of the water project Mrs Buckman for her generosity and for choosing his community for this philanthropic gesture, with a clarion call on public-spirited groups and individuals to emulate her.
The donor of the water project, Mrs Buckman who was accompanied on the visit by her husband, son and few family friends, thanked the Eze and members of Uba community for according her warm reception.
She said her decision to build the borehole was not for any political reason but purely humanitarian.
She was later decorated with a traditional title of Eziada Di Ora Nma, meaning, the beloved daughter of Uba Agwa autonomous community.
Different cultural musical groups clad in special attires, took the centre stage to spice up the occasion.
HRH, Eze (Sir) Blaise O. Uba Olu Oha II of Mgbala Agwa, Eze (Dr) A. O. Ozuruoha, Eze Chinyere Ugo 1 of Uwaorie Agwa, Eze S.O. Onuegbu, Udemba 1 of Mbano Agwa, representative of the Dep. Gov. and that of Interim Management Committee Chairman of Oguta LGA were among the dignitaries that graced the occasion.
