Imo State Universal Basic Education Board, IMSUBEB, is to commence the construction of a seven hundred million (N700M), model primary school in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of the state.
The primary school according to the Executive Secretary of IMSUBEB, Barr Kingsley Nzemeche is among the schools mapped out in the pilot scheme to test run Federal/States governments plan to return boarding school system to the primary schools in the country.
Barr Nzemeche who spoke in his office in Owerri during a visit to him by journalists from Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, further disclosed that the model school will gulp about N700M, and will among other modern facilities, contain boarding facilities for pupils and quarters for teachers.
Explaining the rationale behind the scheme, the Executive Secretary pointed out that it is conceived in furtherance of plans to bring back quality teaching and learning to the country’s basic education system adding that the government will expand the scheme once the pilot scheme is successful.
According to him, the adminstration of Gov Emeka Ihedioha is passionate and committed to improving the state education system hence the fervent interest in the model primary school scheme which is being executed in partnership with the federal government.
Giving further insight into the agenda of the present adminstration for the state education sector, Barr Nzemeche stated that the governor has given approval for the recruitment of four thousand new teachers to strengthen the basic education arm of the school system.
He pointed out that the employment of fresh hands into the system became necessary in view of the acute shortage of teachers in the basic education sub sector of the state education system, stressing that the government is poised to return the lost glory of the state as the number one state in the country in teaching and learning.
While expressing heartfelt gratitude to the governor for his genuine love for education and his appointment as IMSUBEB Secretary, Barr Nzemeche stated apart from his own appointment, the governor has brought in many sons and daughters of Ngor Okpala into his adminstration as demonstration of his love for the council.
He argued that having done so much for the council, the onus was now on those appointed into government to leverage their respective offices to bring government presence into the LGA, assuring that he will set the pace in this regard.
Barr Nzemeche who emphasized the critical role the media plays in democracy and governance enjoined the group to use their platform to contribute their own quota to the Rebuild Adminstration plan to give the state good governance
