Special citizens have been advised to engage in something meaningful in other to develop their potentials/dignity and be free from developing inferiority complex and street begging.
The wife of Imo State Governor, Lady Ebere Ihedioha gave the remark during the 2019 Awareness week celebration of the United Imo State Deaf Women Association held at Ludan Hotels Ikenegbu Owerri.
Lady Ihedioha ably represented by her special Assistant on Special Duties Hon. Mrs Louis Osueke encouraged the deaf women to shun inferiority complex and belief that they can also be what their hearing counterpart are.
Lady Ihedioha emphasized on the theme of the event “The Dangers of Street Begging, HIV Contracts, Unwanted Pregnancies and Way Forward”. She advised them to work hard and shun evil practices. Her words “you must work hard to avoid street begging the rebuild Imo project aimed to empower every Imo women especially the indigents and the special citizens”.
She noted that the empowerment outreach will aid to eradicate poverty and street begging among them. She encouraged them to utilize what was given to them and identify themselves in their various local government areas for further empowerment.
Also speaking, the president of the association, Hon. Mrs. Chizoba Ihugba appreciated Lady Ihedioha for her kind gestures. She noted that the essence of the programme is to promote and protect the human rights of the deaf people including the right to sign language and equal opportunities. She added that their aim is draw to the attention of the government and policy makers so that they would be given equal right.
Hon Ihugba lauded the present government for providing for their welfare. Lending his voice was the Special Adviser to the governor on Special Citizens, Hon. Ikechukwu Ukeje who applauded Governor Emeka Ihedioha for giving the special citizens a sense of belonging.
The event also featured drama, lecture, award presentation to the First lady for her outstanding contributions towards the success of the association.
Some of the items distributed during the empowerment outreach included Sewing machines, Generators, Ovens, Hair washing equipments, among others.
In the same vein Mrs Esther Amadi, a widow, mother of six and a native of Owerre West has been given a stipend to start up business by Lady Ebere Ihedioha.
Presenting the cash donation to the beneficiary at government house recently, Mrs Louis Osueke played God to multiply and bless the handiwork of the widow. She encouraged her to be stead fast and diligent in her dealings.
In respond, Mrs Amadi in tears of joy prayed God to bless and protect the First Lady and her family for her kind gesture.
