Despite the outcome of the 2019 general elections which did not augur too well for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, the Ahiazu LGA chapter of the party, under the leadership of Engr. Bede Opara has resolved to put all issues behind and move forward to re-position and strengthen the party in their LGA so as to be able to win future elections and play a strong role in enthroning an APC-led stated government in 2023.
Addressing party stakeholders at his country home in Ahiazu LGA last Sunday, November 10, 2019, the chairman of APC in the LGA, Engr. Bede Opara informed them that it was good for them to know how the party was moving, why they lost the last election and what could be done to win next time, adding that many politicians had lost elections many times and won later as in the case of the present Oyo State governor who remained in politics and didn’t quit.
He appreciated all the party members who had remained loyal and advised against struggling for positions now, but rather for all hands to be on deck to re-position the party, noting that APC had the advantage of being at the federal level while the state leaders are working hard to organize the party as there is need to move forward.
It will be recalled that the Ahiazu chapter of APC has had several other meetings since the elections ended and in those meetings several people who had joined Action Alliance and other parties due to the internal problems of APC then, had returned to the APC family with a pledge to contribute towards the re-building of the party.
All factions in the party in Ahiazu have been united and there is on-going ward tour in the LGA, just as the LGA party chairman, Engr. Bede Opara informed that he had personally visited many aggrieved party leaders to urged them to return.
The happy party members praised their chairman, Engr. Bede Opara for displaying immense leadership capability in repositioning the party in the LGA, believing that Ahiazu APC remained one of the most united and progressive of all in the state.
Hon. Chris Okechukwu (Yerima) urged members to stick together and be strong to avoid hijackers, advising them to only attend meetings that have the backing of their LGA chairman, Engr. Opara.
Other leaders, including Nze Linus Onyeukwu, Elder Kelvin Ibeawuchi, Mrs Grace Ugo, Hon. Rose Nwigwe, Hon. Felix Oledinma, Chief Tony Anakani, Hon. Grace Iwuchukwu (SOLAD), Chief Ifeanyi Ekeh, Hon. Kire and many others, called for forgiveness and open-mindedness and the need to keep the attendance register to always know the true members of their party.
Hon. (Mrs) Ugo Grace urged the LGA chairman to inform the state leadership of the progress of the party in Ahiazu LGA, as Ahiazu has remained one of the organized LGAs since the election.
