The continuous detention of Hon. Justice Chioma Nwosu Iheme at the kidnappers den 7 days after she was whisked away along Agbo road in Benin City by some yet to be identified kidnappers has attracted the attention of Traditional Rulers from Imo state, where the embattled Appeal Court Judge hails from.
Addressing journalists in Owerri on the issue, the chairman Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Eze Sam Agunwa Ohiri, accompanied by the “Eshi of Nkwerre” HRH Eze Chijioke J. Okwara, said it’s disheartening that 7 days after a reputable Justice under the employment of Federal Government was kidnapped, no sign of her release in site.
It could be recalled that on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, Justice Iheme was reported to have been ambushed by armed men around 11:45am in Benin and during the fracas that ensued, his police escort was shot dead.
The Royal Father said they traditional institutions in Imo are saddened by the development and appeals to President Muhammadu Buhari to expedite action and see to her release.
In his speech, Eze Okwara who is the Deputy Chairman of ‘Ndi-Eze’ Imo state as well as the traditional ruler of Nkwerre ancient kingdom where the kidnapped Justice hails from passionately called on all relevant security agencies in Nigeria to delve into action and rescue the Judge.
He described as unfortunate the spate of kidnapping going on in Nigeria saying no one may be free to walk aroung if the ugly scenario is not checked. “We’re are worried about our daughter, we’re also worried about the level of insecurity in our country Nigeria. “If those in authority who have our mandate to protect us becomes unsafe, then, there is serious problem” eze Okwara added.
Eze Okwara informed that the kidnapping frenzy could negatively affect the smooth dispensation of justice in longe run and invariably, submerge the judicial system.
“Since the ugly news broke, I have cancelled all ceremonies in my Kingdom until our daughter is released and the kidnappers, brought to book” he stated.
