A two-time senator of Orlu zone and the chairman Board of Director of Kpakpando Foundation, Senator Osita Bonaventure Izunaso has been commended for his humanitarian gestures.
The commendation was given by Senator Victor Lar who is the Deputy Governor of Yobe State who represented the Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni who was the chairman of the occasion at the 14th anniversary celebration of Kpakpando Foundation held at the Ahiajoku Complex Owerri, Imo State on Wednesday, October 30, 2019.
He said that some churches have not done what the Kpakpando Foundation is doing and urged other gifted Imolites to emulate Senator Izunaso.
Also speaking on the occasion, the deputy governor of Imo State, Engr. Gerald Irona who was humbled by this year celebration which was flagged off by a free medical outreach commended Senator Izunaso for this gesture and advised the disabled persons to make judicious use of the equipment given to them by Kpakpando Foundation.
In an address, Senator Izunaso said that Kpakpando Foundation started 14 years ago and has been on and remained committed to the well being of persons with disabilities adding that at Kpakpando Foundation, they believe in the brand of social justice which is all inclusive, covering both the able and disabled in our society. He said many people are blinded by their inadequacies, they fail to see their strengths and ingenuity, and pretend not to see their creative and productive powers, they refuse to understand the insurmountable and indomitable spirit of these great citizens of our country, who inspite of being challenged, defeat both physical and mental battles to live as humans.
He added that the foundation has over 2,000 persons with disabilities as members and over 700 persons are in tertiary and secondary school scholarships. In addition to training and starting business to over 1,000 of them, it also provide education, skill acquisition, healthcare and advocacy needs to many of them.
Among the gift items given to them are units of wheel chairs, sewing machines, grinding machines, generators, cartons of indomie, food stuff and several others.
Among the dignitaries that graced the occasion are Comrade Charles Oputa (Charly Boy) who made a cash donation of ten million naira, Hon. Uche Onyeagucha, HRH Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, HRH Eze Thomas Obiefule, HRH Eze Agunwa Ohiri.
