The Interim Management Committee Chairmen of the twenty-seven local government areas of the State, have allegedly contributed three million Naira, (N3m), each, with which they intend to allegedly induce members of the Imo State House of Assembly, to pass into law, a bill elongating their tenure, which is expected to end by December.
A highly dependable source disclosed to our reporter that the intermediary between the lawmakers and the Council Chairmen on the tenure elongation project is a lawmaker from Orlu zone.
The motion for the bill, according to the source, will be presented to the House today (Friday), and if it works out as planned, the bill may be passed into law next week, as it is expected to have accelerated second and third readings.
The grapevine, further added, that the Interim Chairmen are-allegedly ready to pay more to remain and even desperate to contest for the executive chairmanship positions of local government areas, despite the governor’s insistence that they should not contest.
However, a respectable and respectful lawmaker, who craved anonymity, admitted that such a move was on, but said he did not believe it would work considering that most of the members of the 9th House are men of integrity and honoour who would not want their names to be dragged to the mud.
He confided in our reporter that the lawmakers will collect the said money and nothing will be done, adding, “they (Chairmen) will not eat their cake and have it”.
The Lawmaker also pointed out that that will rubbish the image of the governor, whom he said, people will see as one whose words are no longer his bond, should he shift the termination date of the interim local government administration for a day.
