Critical stakeholders of Imo State from all works of life under the auspices of “Imo patriots” last weekend, rising from a day symposium and political round table called on all citizens of Imo State no matter their calling in life, to rise up to the current challenge of rebuilding Imo after the eight years of what they referred to as “locust invasion” that devastated the state economically, socially and psychologically.
The urgent appeal formed part of the important declaration by the patriots and participants at the one day symposium and political round table conference, with the theme “Imo after Okorocha, challenges for the incoming administration”. At the end of the interactive session, during which they saw the need to co-operate and give maximum support to the incoming administration of Chief Emeka Ihedioha.
The patriots in unison appealed to the incoming government to take critical look or rather a thorough inquest into the administration of Rochas Okorocha’s ‘Rescue Mission government especially as it concerns land use, allocations and acquisitions, which were executed with reckless abandon and occasioning racketeering.
The one day symposium held at the banquet hall of Villa Garden Hotel Owerri which drew participants from all walks of life provided a robust platform for cross fertilization of ideas among a galaxy of erudite scholars and other notable participants who were speakers amongst who were Professor Ossy Nwabo, former Vice Chancellor of Imo State University.
Others who presented papers at the occasion include Dr. Linus Okorie, Dr. Katchy Nwoga, Dr. Best Njoku, Prince Bob Njemanze, Barrister Willy Anale, Chief Brady Nwosu and Barr. Mrs Lizzy Nwokocha.
Reviewing the political situation in the past eight years in Imo State speakers and participants were in agreement that the incoming administration should adhere strictly to the rule of law, provide enabling environment, follow due process and involve the people in decision making.
They eulogized Chief Emeka Ihedioha on his decision to put in place an inclusive government that will bring all professionals and parties as manifested in the just inaugurated Technical Transition Committee (TTC).
Earlier in their separate remarks, the chairman of the Steering Committee of the committee of Imo patriots, Nze Elvis Agukwe and the chairman of the August occasion, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu (National Chairman of Zenith Labour Party) made passionate appeals for solidarity for the governor-elect as he now represents the symbol of the struggle for Imo people’s liberation that has been achieved, admonishing that the present situation in the state was above party and sectional interests.
They expressed optimism that the incoming administration under the governor-elect will usher in good governance and development in the state to the joy and appreciation of all Imo people.
