It was a roll call of personalities last December at Orie-Umuihi, ancestral headquarters of Umuihi ancient kingdom as Prince Cedric Uchenna Whoba, son of late renowned Chief Whoba Agoha Ogo, was conferred with a Chieftaincy title of Ochieze I of Umuihi by His Royal Highness, Eze (Rev.) Jude Uwaiaka, Ihi III of Umuihi.
Born to Chief Whoba Agoha Ogo and Lolo Josephine Whoba popularly addressed as Ugwueze at Umuode Ihinna in Ihitte/Uboma Local Government Area of Imo State, Cedric attended schools in Imo State where he bagged several certificates and a degree in Cosmetology and Beauty therapy.
On successful completion of his academic career, the Umuode born Prince decided to delve into self employment as against looking for a white collar job. He later floated a company called Cedric Integrated Services Ltd., a consortium that is into Real Estate and Farming businesses. As a sports lover from childhood he has been promoting sports development especially in Okigwe geo-political zone of Imo State. The celebrant Prince who is very much loved by youths in Ihinna Community and beyond is also into consultancy services especially in the area of Tourism and Leisure services. Only recently he build and commissioned an ultra-modern guest house called CEDRIX GUEST HOUSE at Isinweke, headquarters of Ihitte/Uboma Local Government Area for purposes of giving comfortable accommodation to tourists and visitors to the area.
As a philanthropist, he has no barriers in providing services to people especially to those who are handicapped in one way or the other. He has in several occasions provided free medical services to indigent people and has paid WAEC/SSCE Examination fees to several students especially those that enrolled at the Nwaeruru Mbakwe Comprehensive Secondary School located near his house at Umuode Ihinna, Umuihi.
For several years, Chief Cedric Whoba has been sponsoring the All Age Grades Football Tournament, AGFT in addition to traditional wrestling competitions, a legacy bequeated to the Whoba family by the late Chief Agoha Ogo. Furthermore Cedrix has been sponsoring Egwu Okoro na Agbogho competition, periodically held for the defunct Etiti Division, now made up of Ihitte/Uboma and Obowo Local Government Areas.
Chief Whoba is known for his captivity social life which crosses ethnic boundaries and accommodates both the rich and the poor. He is the head of the Civilian/Military Relations in Lagos as well as LASMA Mayor, As a member of the Order of Parishioners, Imo State, he is aiso the founder of Hope Enterprises.
Uchenna Cedric Whoba is happily married to an elegant and beautiful woman, Lolo Maureen Cedric Whoba and their marriage is blessed with children. His major hobbies are travelling and socializing with people. In an interview on why he decided to take a traditional title from Umuihi as against doing so at his native Ihinna Autonomous community, the Umuode-born Prince said that this is a directive from his late father adding that late Chief Whoba Agoha Ogo started his life at Umuihi and died at Umuihi. He declined to comment on whether in future, he will also take another Chieftaincy title from Ihinna Community.
The ceremony which had some popular traditional dancing groups in attendance attracted dignitaries from all walks of life including Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, representing Okigwe zone at the national assembly, Eze Lawrence Ihekweme of Ihinna, Eze Desmond Anyanwu of Nkwumeato, Eze Iwueke of Okata, Chairman of Ihitte/Uboma Council Area and several political gladiators as well as High Chief C.C. Anyanwu who was chairman of the ceremony.
Addressing the audience, Senator Uwajumogu who incidentally belongs to the same age grade with Chief Whoba poured ecumiun on the celebrant, describing him as a worthy son of the land. He charged him to continue to maintain the legacies left behind by his father especially in the area of community development and helping the needy in our society.
In a brief remark, the traditional ruler of Umuihi, Eze (Rev.) Uwalaka said that the essence of conferring the title of Ochieze on Whoba was to honour him for all that he has done towards developing the physical and human resources in Umuihi and prayed for his success in all endeavours.
