All is now set for a political debate for House of Assembly/House of Representatives candidates being organized by the Ngor Okpala Debate Group, NODG,
The highly anticipated political jaw jaw which is seen in several quarters as veritable opportunity for the candidates to sell themselves to voters is billed take place at Umuneke, headquarters of the council area beginning from 10am in the morning.
The first of its kind in the area, candidates expected to strut their stuff on the podium that Sunday includes Hon Chinedu Opara of African Democratic Party, ADC, Mr Ugochukwu Okere of APC, Mr Tochi Samuel Okereke of PDP, Dr Diala of APGA and Hon Obinna Egu of AA
Others are Happiness Steven of AGAP, Prince Collins Enwere of Accord Party, Prince Obinna Nwosu of MAJA Party, Barr Stanley Anyaeto of ADP and Nze Chidi of DPC
Those billed to slug it out in the House of Reps debate are Incumbent Hon Bede Eke, PDP, Barr Patrice Akwarra, AA, Chief Emmanuel Emereonye APGA, Chief Blyden Amajirionwu APC and Chief Akalaefu of ADP.
Briefing journalists on preparation for the debate, chairman of Local Organizing Committee, LOC, and National President of Ogbako Ngor Okpala Youth, one of the coalition of bodies packaging the program stated that arrangements have been made to hold a memorable debate.
Engr Uzoma who listed other collaborating bodies to include New Imo Movement, NIM, Ngor Okpala Development and Peace Initiative, NODePI, National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN and National Association of Ngor Okpala Students, NANS; further disclosed that the quest for good governance and people centred leadership were the factors that motivated the organizing of the debate.
He expressed the hope that candidates of political parties will use the rare opportunity to market themselves to voters, just as the voters avail themselves of the chance to make informed choices of the candidates to vote at the elections.
The LOC chairman pointed out that apart from the two categories that will be on stage, Senatorial and governorship candidates are also expected to submit their manifestos and programs of action for the council stressing that the idea is also to enable the group study them and come up with positions they will pass on to the voting population of the area ahead of the elections.
Engr Uzoma who noted that its been a challenging task putting the debate together, expressed the hope that the objectives necessitating it will be achieved, so that a new dawn of good governance signposted by delivery of dividends of democracy will become the portion of the local government.
