The camp of the APC governorship candidate in Imo State, Chief Hope Uzodinma, has been in disarray following the bold and calculated takeover of Oru East and West LGAs, which are the core strongholds of the APC, by the SDP governorship candidate, Sir OkeyEzeh.
Ezeh led his campaign trail to Oru on Saturday to launch what has been described by observers as a decisive onslaught on the APC candidate right in his own constituency. He inaugurated and instantly empowered a campaign council made up of 108 men, women and youths in each of the LGAs, empowering also over ten thousand unemployment youths who had volunteered to drive the Imo Rebirth Campaign in order to create a future where unemployment would become alien.
Meanwhile, a source within Uzodinma’s camp who spoke to us on the condition of anonymity expressed worries over the overwhelming turn out of the people and their willingness to work for the SDP.
His words, “Are you not aware that the LGA Chairman of APGA in Oru East, Ethelbert Okunakpo, also led the entire structure of APGA in the LGA to defect to SDP, vowing to leave no stone unturned in delivering OkeyEzeh in Oru East? This is another reason for us to be worried,” he said.
“My politics is about re-engineering things and finding solutions to things which seem to have defied solutions,” Ezeh revealed while addressing the Presidents-General of Town Unions in Oru East.
He continued, “Very often, we have had governments by those who have a very limited understanding about security and job creation. For them, curbing crimes and creating jobs begin and end with establishing defective security outfits and giving uniforms to people. Under my watch, crime shall be banished from Imo State by first attacking those factors that breed crime. Where there is no unemployment and extreme poverty the idea of theft would scarcely arise. It is cheaper to train people and engage them than to buy guns and build prisons. When people find a pathway out of poverty they can hardly resort to crime,” he insisted.
He also promised to established a Rural Roads Maintenance Agency and to reposition the local government system to develop the capacity to generate revenues and to meet the basic needs of the people.
Earlier, the renowned investment banker paid a courtesy call on His Royal Highness, Eze (Engr.) Onyenekwu of Eziawa II Autonomous Community in Awo- Omamma, where he received royal blessings from the monarch and further flayed the bastardization of the revered traditional institutions in Imo State by successive political leaderships in the State. He pledged to uphold the sanctity of Imo’s rich cultural heritage and give the traditional rulers a place of pride.
During the visit, the Awo-Omamma Patriotic Union, APU, represented by Chief Anthony Nkeya, presented an award of Excellence, Nwanne Di N’Mba of Awo-Omamma, to Ezeh.
The visit to Oru nation also afforded an opportunity for Ezeh, who is the leader of the SDP in Imo State, to hand over the party’s flags to Sir Louis Orioha, the House of Assembly candidate of the party in Oru East and Prince EzenwaAsoegwu for Oru West.
