Imo pensioners are in a sad mood as Christmas remains three days away, following the inability of the state government to clear their heaps of arrears of pensions even with the recently released of #12 billion Paris Club Refund from the federal government .
The pensioners who hinted that they only received one month pension out of years and months of arrears, also revealed that they may embark on a serious protest any time from now, to express their total disappointment over the development.
The principal secretary of the Nigeria Union of pensioners, NUP, Imo state Comrade Livy Ashiegbu hinted that most of their members-Would be going home for Christmas on a sad note following what he said was the alleged payment of less than one hundred percent of the one month that was paid to them, regretting that the action of the state government was at variance and contradicted a court pronouncement in 2LH-Z^jrecting the Imo State Government of Governor Okorocha to pay them their full monthly pensions.
Imo pensioners recalled that the state government had earlier promised and given them assurances that the N12 billion Paris Club refund which the federal government released to Imo state and other statesof the federation, would be used to clear their several months and years of pensions arrears but expressed shock that even the one month that was paid by the Governor was not being paid in full.
Meanwhile there are feelers that some pensioners were yet to receive the one month pension that is being given to Imo pensioners currently. A relation of a pensioner who preferred anonymity hinted that his mother was yet to receive hers as at yesterday.
