The Imo state governorship candidate of the United Progressive Party, UPP, Hon. Tony Nwulu, last weekend, unveiled a renowned investment banker, Dr. Nnaemeka Obiaraeri, as his running mate in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Performing the unveiling ceremony before the leadership of the party as well as relevant stakeholders at the UPP state Secretariat in Owerri, Hon. Nwulu, declared that the decision has ended months of speculation over his preparedness for the topmost contest in 2019.
He used the forum to debunk the insinuations making the rounds that he has relinquished or sold his gubernatorial ticket to someone else, stating that he is not in the race to be settled or bought over, but to win and lift Imo people out of maladministration.
The UPP governorship candidate, who is also a member of the Federal House of Representatives, described the forthcoming election in the state as a fight between the oppressors and the oppressed, while urging people of the state to reject those who have contributed in different ways in making life unbearable for them.
On the choice of Dr. Obiaraeri as his running mate, Hon. Nwulu, emphasized the need for Imo to have a thoroughbred technocrat as a deputy governor in its critical stage of governance, while expressing optimism that the trained investment banker would deplore his rich experiences and competencies to bear in the governance of the state.
He described his running mate as one of the best brains the state has ever produced, adding that the Ihube Okigwe born technocrat with his shared vision, has distinguished himself in many fields of human endeavor.
In his reaction, the UPP deputy governorship candidate, Dr. Nnaemeka Obiaraeri, while thanking the candidate and the party for the honour done to him, promised to work assiduously, together with his boss to deliver Imo people from the hands of those he called political merchants, and set the state on a sound developmental footing.
