In the wake of his emergence as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for Imo State, the homes of Sen Hope Uzodimma in Abuja and Imo have reportedly turned Mecca of sorts for aggrieved members of Gov Rochas Okorocha’s Agburu camp.
While this is going on, the much anticipated reconvening of the State Assembly last Tuesday began on a shaky ground following the abrupt adjournment of sittings by the Speaker, Rt Hon Acho Ihim citing non formation of quorum as reason for his action.
According to sources close to the Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District(Orlu)in the National Assembly, revealed that most of those besieging his homes are Agburu politicians who lost out in their bids to pick the party tickets for various elective offices in the 2019 election.
It was learnt that the politicians who had hoped that Gov Okorocha had the clout and power to guarantee them party tickets, are now rushing to the coalition chieftain on bended knees and bowed heads, begging for tickets.
In their desperation to get the ears of the guber candidate and other chieftains of the coalition, Nigeria Newspoint further gathered that the aspirants are not leaving any stone unturned as they are deploying every arsenal and strategy they can muster to warm their way into the heart of the coalition chieftains.
According to party sources some of them had initially tried to leverage on their contacts at the national level to see how they can regain the lost tickets but such efforts proved abortive as those they reached in Abuja including the national chairman of the party referred them to the Orlu Zone Senator and other stakeholders of the coalition like the deputy governor,Prince Eze Madumere.
However, a source which sounded authoritative informed disclosed that the Agburu politicians who have been going on pilgrimage to the senator’s home in hope for a turn around in their political fortune are merely wasting their time as the issue of party tickets have been sorted out and settled for good.
In the same vein, the alleged impeachment fever that has gripped the Imo Assembly almost took a life of its own last Tuesday when speaker Acho Ihim hurriedly adjourned proceedings citing non formation of quorum.
The speaker, it was learnt had entered the chambers accompanied by about three lawmakers and soon after dashed out after adjourning sittings in a hurry .
Investigation by reporters on ground revealed that contrary to the claims of the speaker that members of the House were not present, many lawmakers were in their offices waiting for commencement of proceedings only to hear that the House has been adjourned for one week.
Reacting to the allegations of the unfolding plot to oust the speaker a member of the Assembly who spoke on condition of strict anonymity said he is not aware of any plot to impeach the speaker.
The lawmaker, however, added that anything is possible in Imo state at the moment ,going by the political atmosphere in the state.
