The Orlu Elders Council, led by Professor Francis Dike (SAN), has denied the story being credited to gubernatorial candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP), that they were consulted before he made his choice of running mate from Orlu senatorial zone.
In a statement issued in Owerri, signed by the Council’s Secretary, Prof. Protus Nathan Uzorma and the Chairman council conceded that while it is the prerogative of a governorship candidate to pick his deputy, “we wish to state categorically that, we were never consulted by anybody”.
They also argued that this development was contrary to the understanding they have with Owerri and Okigwe zones.
It would be recalled that recently, the PDP candidate for the 2018 governorship race, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, had announced the choice of former Member of the House of Representative and Imo state House of Assembly as well as former Oguta Local Government Executive Chairman, Chief Gerald Irona, as his running mate.
However, some interest groups in Orlu who said that, they were opposed to the candidate’s choice of a running mate claimed that, they were not consulted as was needful.
