The governorship ticket battle rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, in Imo State recently took a shocking twist following Gov Rochas Anayo Okorocha’s reported walk out on President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, seat of power.
Nigeria Newspoint was informed by reliable APC sources that the visibly angry governor staged the walk out after several efforts made to woo the president to back his succession plan failed .
It was learnt that the Imo State helmsman had in the wake of the ticket crisis approached President Buhari to seek his support in making the party chairman,Adams Oshiomhole do his bidding with regard to who becomes the party’s standard bearer in Imo state, a request the president promised to look into even as he further urged him to go back to the party leadership for solution to the problem.
The governor as advised made several attempts to get the party chair to agree to his proposals but, unfortunately, the more he tried to win over the party Chairman, the more he snubbed him.
Sensing that Oshiomhole would not hearken to his voice especially as the speculation that Sen Hope Uzodinma is having the upper hsnd, gained more ground, Gov Okorocha in panic rushed back to Aso Rock Villa for last ditch effort to salvage his succession plan.
However, that adventure reportedly ran into a hitch following the president’s open reluctance to wade into the matter.
Sources further revealed that it was at point when it became obvious that he has been abandoned that the visibly frustrated governor staged a walkout which reports said was cut short by the president who gently called him back and requested they finish their discussion as true leaders.
The governor Nigeria Newspoint was informed obeyed the president though deep down inside him he knew the battle is lost.
And as if to further rub salt into his injury the party leadership barely twenty four hours after that failed bid of the governor branded him a bad loser.
