From all indications, Gov Rochas Okorocha has completely lost the battle to install his son in law, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu as his successor following the position of the party leadership that the recommendations of the partys Appeal Panel set up after primaries would not be implemented.
According to party sources who confided in Nigeria Newspoint said the decision not to implement the report of the panel stemmed from the fact that the committee submitted it after the expiration of the time given by INEC to political parties to conclude all party primary activities.
The committee Nigeria Newspoint also gathered submitted the report only last week Wednesday, October 17, 2018, many days after the deadline given by the electoral umpire had elapsed and this according legal minds technically rendered the report ineffective and unimplementable.
According to sources one of the contestants said the party decision not to implement the report would put paid to his ambition is Ugwumba Uche Nwosu who approached the panel asking it to declare that the second primary conducted by the party in the state as the only authentic primary held in the state thus making him the legitimate governorship candidate of APC in Imo.
The panel had during its sittings looked into Ugwumba Nwosus petition and agreed that he won the exercise and consequently recommended same to the national leadership of the party for perusal and action.
However, hopes that light had appeared at the end of the tunnel for the guber aspirant was dashed by the party chairman Comrade Oshimhole who declared while receiving the report that the party wont implement it because it was submitted behind time.
It was learnt that if this pronouncement is anything to go by then Ugwumba Nwosu guber bid, at least in APC, has died a natural death as that leaves the party with only one primary election which is the election of October 2, 2018 won by Sen Hope Uzodimma.
Sen Uzodimma had repeatedly claimed he won the exercise, a position that has been corroborated by the chairman of the committee that conducted the lection Alhaji Ahmed Gulak who alleged that his refusal to do Gov Okorocha’s bidding is the reason the governor is alleging primary election never held that day.
In his spirited effort to legitimize his claimed victory the senator representing Imo West Senatorial District in the Senate had since approached a Federal High Court in Abuja praying it to declare that he won the primary election of his party and therefore should be declared its guber candidate.
But, even as Imolites await with bathed breath the next adjourned date of the suit the technical knockout of his archrival seems to have brought the lingering ticket battle to an anticlimactic end considering that it has further widened his chances of emerging the APC candidate in the state since he was declared winner of the first primary which the party going by its position on the second exercise seem to have accepted as the authentic exercise
