From all indications, Senator Hope Uzodimma may have edged out Gov Rochas Okorocha and his anointed successor, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu in the fierce struggle for guber ticket of the All Progressive Congress APC, according to Nigeria Newspoint findings.
Reliable party sources who spoke to our correspondent yesterday disclosed that even though the court case instituted on the matter is still pending, the party as at yesterday submitted the lawmaker’s name pending the determination of the suit.
It was gathered that apart from the court order that tasked the party to show reason why Sen Uzodinma should not be submitted to INEC, most national leaders of the party are also firmly against the governor’s succession plan.
It was gathered that after several fruitless efforts to persuade the governor to change his decision failed, the national leadership of the party including the president decided to withdraw support for the governor, a situation that has prompted observers to believe that the party hierarchy is solidly behind Sen Uzodinma.
According sources the name the party leadership transmitted to the electoral umpire to beat deadline for submission of candidates name could not have been any other but Sen Uzodinma’s based on the court order, the gang up by other guber aspirants of the party who have confirmed that the primary that produced Sen Uzodimma held as well as the Abuja opposition to the governor.
Clear indications that Abuja is indeed against Imo state governor,Rochas Okorocha were recently brought to light by the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Yekini Nabena who recently strongly alluded to the Gov Okorocha issue in a press interview where he said most governors were against the National Party Chairman,Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for his refusal to dance to their succession drumbeat.
With the odds heavily stacked against Gov Okorocha and his choice successor it is most unlikely therefore that they would scale all the hurdles successfully to actualize their ambition, even if they miraculously carry the day when the court matter is finally concluded
