The Imo State chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC will today, Monday, October 1 2018 go to the poll to elect it’s governorship candidate for next year’s governorship election.
However, unlike other political parties that will produce one governorship candidate, investigation reveals that APC in the state is likely to produce two candidates from the two factions that have been laying claim to the soul of the party.
It was gathered yesterday that the State Governor, Anayo Rochas Okorocha’s camp has concluded arrangements to produce Ugwumba Uche Nwosu as it’s flagbearer, while indications also emerged that Prince Eze Madumere may become the preferred choice of Restoration Coalition.
This is the scenario, sources close to the two camps said will play out today contrary to insinuations in some quarters that the two camps would converge in their different wards for the primary election.
Party sources further disclosed that the camps choose to go their own ways after vehemently refusing to agree to each others conditions for peace to return to the party.
According to the sources Gov Okorocha even up to the evening of yesterday (Sunday) was still backing his son in law, Ugwumba Nwosu, a support touted as the root of the party’s crisis in the state.
The coalition group who have never hidden their disapproval of the governors choice on their part also stuck to their original position that he (Nwosu)must be dropped or, they conduct their own primary election.
The fielding of two candidates according to analysts would mean that the national leadership of the party could not find a solution to the protracted crisis in Imo APC.
They further contend that the obvious implication of this is that the final resolution of the crisis now lies with the judiciary. And there are matters in court.
