The event which held at Bohncynthia Luxuria, behind Concorde hotel, Owerri, was attended by student leaders and youths from various parts of the country.
In his speech, before formally presenting the award, the Coordinator of NANS, Zone B, comprising the entire South East and South/South geo-political zones, Comrade Okereke Godson C, (Aluta Bishop), said the award was in recognition of Ezinwa Stanley Amuchie’s sterling qualities, impeccable track record, commitment to the welfare of youths and selfless services to God and humanity.
In his response, Sir Amuchie, a first class graduate of Industrial Chemistry from the University of Uyo and also holds a Master degree in Corporate Government from Leeds Backett University, in the United Kingdom, thanked the association for finding him worthy of the award.
He recalled that he was very active in Student Union activities and was also a member of NANS while in the university. “I acquired my primary, secondary and university education here in Nigeria. I am conversant with the problems, challenges, needs and aspirations of the people. I will therefore not relent in addressing them, especially the affairs of students and youths”.
The top notch banker, administrator and astute manager of men and resources, stressed the need for credible, honest and God-fearing people who are sincerely willing and ready to serve the people to be elected into leadership positions at all levels, come 2019.
The governorship hopeful, who is also the Founder of Good Light Foundation, a non-governmental, humanitarian organization that has positively touched the lives of many people noted that he abandoned his rosy and lucrative job and other attendant benefits to contest the governorship position of the state because, he is touched by the pain, suffering and agony of the people and is poised to make a difference, restore their hopes and make life more meaningful. “I am aware of some people who spent months in the hospital because of inability to promptly pay their bills”.
He promised to revive the state’s economy, create jobs for the teeming youths, ensure prompt payment of salary, pension and other statutory emoluments and fast track infrastructural development, among other dividends of democracy, if elected .
He urged the leadership and members of NANS to go out, mobilize, educate and sensitize the electorate and people at the grassroots on the need to vote wisely.
He also debunked rumours and insinuations circulating in various quarters that he is being fronted and sponsored by the present government. According to him, “all those stories are lies peddled by those who are already scared. I urge you to ignore them completely. I have never met the governor in person and there may not ne need for me to seem. Besides, I am not the type of person to be sponsored. I came out on my own volition, to and liberate the people”.
Addressing journalists, shortly after the award conferment, the Zone B Coordinator of NANS, Comrade Okereke Godson (Bishop) harped on the need for ^credible focused and result-oriented technocrats, reputable managers of men and resources who understand the nitty-gritty of governance to assume leadership positions at all levels. “In my opinion, we don’t need recycled and professional politicians anymore, because they have consistently failed the people. It is time for us to try political green horns and neophytes who are passionate about the enhanced welfare of the people.
The vibrant student leader urged all the political parties in thecountry, to ensure they present “candidates of proven integrity, impeccable character, antecedents and pedigree, for all elective positions because NANS, will, at the appropriate time take a stand on where the pendulum of our support will swing, after a comprehensive assessment of the candidates. We have been fooled and taken for a ride for so long, and it will no longer be business as usual”, he said.
