Uncertainty and Confusion are said to have enveloped the Agburu political family of the Imo State governor ,Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha, in the aftermath of the seeming refusal of the national chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshimhole to inaugurate the newly elected factional chairman of the party in the state, Mr Dan Nwafor at Abuja, recently.
Sources within the state seat of power revealed that the governor’s camp despite the facade of victory being displayed in the open is seriously consumed by the subtle fear of the unknown after the attempt to push through Nwafor’s inauguration failed at the nation’s Capital,Abuja.
It was gathered that the government had reached out to the party leadership in Abuja after its factional congresses requesting the formal swearing in of the said new state chairman to seal the controversial exercise. But that request was reportedly turned down by Oshimhole who reportedly said the exercise has to wait pending the determination of the suit on the earlier congresses held in the state subsisting at the Appeal Court and filed by the Allied Forces.
The factional Allied Forces, also known as Imo APC Coalition which has been embroiled in a supremacy battle for the soul of the party with Gov Rochas Okorocha, it would be recalled had appealed the recent judgement of an Owerri Federal Court presided over by Hon Justice Lewis Allagoa which had nullified the first congresses held in the state. It was that judgement that formed the basis of the recent factional congresses held solely by Okorocha and his group at the IICC,Owerri.
Following its Appeal the Allied Forces had distanced itself from last week congresses which threw up the factional chairman,Nwafor who is Ugwumba Nwosu’sboy. His fate is said to be now hanging in the balance following this unpleasant twist to the Imo APC saga.
Meanwhile, Controversy has continued to trail the choice of Ugwumba Uche Nwosu’s Aide, Hon Dan Nwafor as replacement for Chris Oguoma who formerly acted as factional State chairman for the Gov Okorocha’s camp.
Aggrieved members of the party, especially followers of Governor Rochas Okorocha otherwise known as Rescue Mission are raising eye brows, saying that Hon Nwafor is inexperienced to handle such highly complicated party leadership position like State Chairman.
Most of the Rescue Missioners who spoke on condition of anonymity to in Owerri condemned the choice and declared that it is totally unacceptable. It is nothing short of the usual ‘use and dump’ style, they lamented.
In addition, they advised the governor as a matter of urgency to reconsider his decision, while it is still early and go for someone who is grounded in politics to lead APC both at the Ward, LGA and State levels. They added that Hon Nwafor should go back to the Chief of Staff’s office and continue his job as Special Assistant on Administration to Ugwumba Uche Nwosu and not accept a job he cannot handle.
It would be recalled that Gov Okorocha had dropped Mr Oguoma for the said Nwosu’s aide as new Imo APC chairman, a decision which is being condemned by concerned members of his own Rescue family, though silently.
Those who felt aggrieved by that decision further argued that the decision,if not changed has the potential to ruin whatever was left of the governor’s succession plan, even as they described the jilting of Mr Oguoma as brutal ingratitude which should be frowned at because the same man was used to fight Chief Ekeh only to be discarded when it was time to show him some level of appreciation.
