A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Isu Local Government Area of Imo State, Architect Chukwunonso Nnaji has declared his intention to represent the area in the Imo State House of Assembly come 2019.
Arc. Nnaji who hails from Amurie Omanze community in the area, declared his interest to represent Isu State constituency in the House of Assembly at the APC LGA party secretariat in Ekwe, Isu LGA, promised to legislate laws that would better the lives of those in his constituency if elected into the Imo State House of Assembly.
He also vowed to end electoral thuggery in the course of his campaign, saying if the opportunity to represent the people he would ensure empowerment of the youths of the area to end idleness.
Nnaji, who lamented that development of Isu LGA had been very slow because the constituency had not got somebody that can give them effective representation without depending on constituency projects.
On the call for him to serve, Nnaji stated that it has taken him several years to prepare for leadership because “I understandd that leadership is not something that somebody can walk into. It’s a calling and I’ve answered the call for leadership and it’s my belief that together we shall make Isu great.
“I’m saying this because representation and governance particularly in Imo State has become that of the youths. The reason is because we have people we sent to represent us and they have worked to the best of their knowledge and ability and now it is time for us the youths to go there and use our contacts to explore both the governmental and non-governmental agencies to give our people what they deserve and we’re ready to come in to change things.
“So, when I look at the state of our schools, healthcare, unemployment level and all that I had to answer the call since we have the capacity to turn things around. I know we can do better than what we presently have. So, I am seeking for this office largely because I am more competent to serve the need of the people of Isu in the state house of Assembly”.
He added that if given the opporunity to represent the constituency, he would do everything possible to channel the face of Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, who would be elected as governor to Isu LGA.
Reacting, the state commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Mrs. Florence Emenalo, commended Arc. Nnaji for having the courage to contest for the election in 2019, adding that his vow not to encourage thuggery in the politics of Isu was key because moderns politics needs diplomacy and persuasion and not thuggery and hoolisganism.
While stating that the politics of Isu is a game for everybody that is interested and not something that should be left in the hands of one individual, saying, NNaji’s declaration had changed the narrative for the party.
She advised all aspirants not to see another aspirant as enemy because such attitude would not engender progress in the party in the area.
In his response, the Isu LGA chairman of APC, Chief Vitus Uba commended Arc. Nnaji for coming out to declare his interest to run in the party, saying the party needs as many aspirants as possible to show they have more capable people.
He promised to continue to be fair to all party stakeholders particularly aspirants in the course of the party’s primary elections.
