A socio-cultural and political organisation of Owerri zone indigenes, based in the United States of America, USA, the Diaspora Owerri zone–2019 has cautioned Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha to accord necessary respect and obedience to the existing charter of equity in the political power play of fielding governors of the state between Orlu,Owerri and Okigwe zones in the state, if the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC should retain Imo government beyond 2019.
Speaking in an interview with journalists in a telephone chat in Owerri last week, president of the diaspora organisation, chief Richmond Okoro, said that, for Imo State to make considerable political progress ahead of the awaited 2019 general election and beyond, Gov. Okorocha must drop his insatiable quest in bringing his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu as successor to the seat of Imo governor, come, 2019,adding that, it is quite regrettable and disheartening of the governor to front yet another Orlu zone indigene as his successor, without recourse to the zoning arrangement by people of the three geopolitical zones in the state.
Also emphasizing that Orlu zone has taken 16 years of interrupted reign on the seat of Imo governorship to disqualify Uche Nwosu’s aspiration, Okoro stated that, Owerri zone deserves to field candidate of the APC as governor, even as he maintained that, the state deputy governor, prince Eze Madumere is on ground, being instrumental to the recorded massive infrastructural development witnessed in the state by the present APC-led government.
The group, however threatened to forward a petition to the presidency, copy of which would be made available to the APC National Working Committee, NWC led by chief John Oyegun.
The essence of the petition is to inform the party’s national leadership to revisit the charter of equity jettisoned and eliminated by Gov. Okorocha’s greed and nepotism tendencies.
