Land Grabbing: Uwazuruike NBA, call to order

Anyone who has been following various reported land disputes involving the founder of the Movement for the Actualization for the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike and his reported land disputes with some Imolites may wonder what kind of freedom fighter he is. This is so in view of the fact that in all recorded history, reputable freedom fighters hardly get obsessed with property.
But beyond the tag of a freedom fighter who rekindled or re-ignited the fire of Biafra restoration, Chief Uwazuruike is also a lawyer duely called to the Nigerian Bar. The Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, remains one of the most respected professional associations in Nigeria comparable only to the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), among others. So, the question is: has NBA as a respectable professional body tried to ascertain the reason or reasons for his involvement in land grabbing allegations?
For instance, a report published in Orient Daily Newspaper of Monday, October 30, 2017, showed how the MASSOB and Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) founder, Uwazurike petitioned the National Judicial commission, NJC, over what he (Uwazuruike) alleged was an attempt by a judge of an Owerri High Court, Justice Ojiako, to jail him in a matter he said he was the plaintiff.
Another newspaper report in the Guardian of Saturday October 28, 2017, also published a story of ruling of an Owerri High Court presided over by Justice K.A. Ojiako ordering the arrest and detention of Chief Uwazuruike till November 14, 2017 in a case with Suit No. HOW/263/2013, and the MASSOB founder’s move to appeal the reported ruling.
As if that is not enough, Uwazuruike is alleged to be in court with three other persons who are said to be represented by one P.O. Anyanwu Esq. legal practitioner (lawyer) who claimed: “I have three pending suits in respect of land with Barrister Raphael Uwazuruike who is being represented by E.E. Chukwuka Esq”.
Sadly, Barrister Anyanwu had noted “that the conduct of Barrister Raphael Uwazuruike ….. ridicules the legal profession…”. He also gave some details of the land disputes thus: “That the three suits which I am appearing with the said Barrister Raphael Uwazuruike are HOW/12/2016, HOW/193/2012 and CA/OW/14/2013”.
Another legal practitioner, Chigozier N. Tims Iheama Esq is also reportedly in court with Uwazuruike over alleged attempt to grab his land by the MASSOB founder. He gave the Suit No. as HOW/265/2013. Meanwhile New Telegraph Newspaper of Friday, March 18, 2018, reported that the NJC dismissed Uwazuruike’s petition against Justice K.A. Ojiako of Owerri High Court. In the said dismissed petition Uwazuruike had alleged that Justice Ojiako was biased aside allegations bordering on professional conduct but the NJC apparently did not see any merit in Uwazuruike’s petition.
