Leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Imo state chapter has taken the state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and his All Progressives Congress, APC to the cleaners, saying that the government has battered the system with impunity out of proportions.
The party speaking through the state Publicity Secretary, Dr. George Nkwoji declared that Imo state governor by his actions, inactions and programmes has made caricature of democracy especially on his assailable and inhuman policies. According to APGA, the state has experienced what they called more physical, psychological, economic and developmental trauma since Rochas assumed office than ever, describing the 2018 celebrations as a mockery and rape of democracy.
The APGA state mouth piece stated that under APC and Rochas, the state has witnessed irreparable demolitions across communities and towns without verifiable cause, none payment of pensions and gratuities, traumatized the conscience of the people and dwarfed their hopes of survival amidst ravaging hardship through consistent and indiscriminate seizure of traders’ goods and multiple extortions, as well as denying the people rights to live, stressing that the government has created extreme poverty in the land. Dr. Nkwoji further disclosed that Imo today is wearing a face of a war torn state. But swiftly, Imo State governor and chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has expressed delight in wishing Nigerians and President Muhammadu Buhari remarkable Democracy Day celebrations.
Governor Okorocha in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo and made available to Nigeria Moment said for Nigeria to have remained under a democratic rule for nineteen years uninterrupted, in-spite of all the challenges confronting her as a multi-ethnic nation called for celebrations and for sober reflection.
He advised that Nigerians at this stage should also grow beyond ethnic politics to help our democracy grow faster than expected. According to the governor, Democracy in Nigeria has come to stay and what is expected in the circumstance is for all hands to be on deck so that we can build a democratic Nigeria of our collective dream and aspiration, and where peace and unity abound.
“For me, Nigerians should leverage on the opportunity offered by the 2018 Democracy Day to pray for the leadership of the nation at all levels and also pray that the good efforts of President Mohammadu Buhari to transform the nation and rid her of corruption should produce the needed result”. The governor asked the good Lord to bless Imo people in particular and Nigerians in general on this momentous period of Nigeria’s 2018 Democracy Day Celebrations”.
