Professor of landscape architecture and former president, Academic Staff Union of Universities, Aloysius Ukachukwu Awuzie has made public, his intension to vie for the Imo West (Orlu Zone) senatorial seat in the 2019 general elections.
Declaring for the upper house of the National Assembly seat under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Ukachukwu Aloysius” Awuzie who was also, vice chancellor of Imo State University, Owerri noted that although each of the many senators that represented Orlu since the last 19 years of democratic governance in Nigeria’s 4th republic played his role in accordance with the best of his ability, based on his motivation for seeking the senatorial seat, the zone still, does not appear to have ever been represented by its best.
Addressing a mammoth gathering of Orlu Zone indigenes, APGA state, LGA and ward leaders as well as members of the academia, representatives of various religious bodies in Orlu Zone and jubilant youths at the Central School, Eziachi in Orlu local government area last Sunday, Prof. Awuzie lamented that it was from the very group of persons that grabbed the mandate to represent Orlu Zone since the past 19 years that academic qualification controversies dogged greater part of the tenure.
“Based on internationally accepted standards for representation and the personal quality of the representative, it is clear that Orlu Zone has not been represented by its second eleven, not to talk of its first eleven, in terms of educational qualification and commitment to party ideals”, Prof Awuzie, an alumnus of University of Massachusetts, USA stated.
On the way forward, the distinguished professor who hails from Umuzike in Orlu local government area urged the people of Orlu Zone to embrace APGA as a political party as according to him, APGA is peopled with notable resourceful and thoroughly educated personalities.
“The ugly narrative of Orlu Zone since the past 19 years has to change and it is for this reason that I present myself to contest and be elected as the senator representing Imo West (Orlu Zone), come 2019”, he prayed.
Assuring Imo APGA leaders and members of his capability, readiness and willingness for the job of a senator, Ukachukwu Awuzie bluntly, stated, “an objective perusal through my profile shows that I have good education, administrative and managerial experience. I also have outstanding charisma, a strong character and visibility at the international, national and state levels. And, I had productively deployed these qualities in attracting and executing projects as ASUU President and Vice Chancellor of Imo State University. These, I will also bring to bear on my legislative duties”.
