A man who identified himself as Sergeant Obi Sunday of Imo State Police Command Headquarters Owerri was on Wednesday May 23, 2018 sentenced to two weeks imprisonment with an option of Naira N10,000 payable before 3pm same day.
Sergeant Sunday and two other armed police officers who are now at large were at Orogwe Customary court in Owerri West Local Government Area to effect the arrest of one Mr. Augustine Anyanwu of Umunjanwoke in Orogwe whose case of land dispute was before the customary court.
According to the information, Sergeant Obi and his colleagues had approached the plaintiff within them court premises for arrest before luck ran out of them.
Mr. Anyanwu who was running around the court premises to meet all litigation requirements as directed by his lawyer was about to be forced into a waiting vehicle before his refusal attracted the attention of the court in session who immediately summoned the inside the court room.
The story has it that two out of the three police officers fled leaving one behind who was summarily judged and sentenced to two weeks jail for wrongfully effecting an arrest within a court premises. The matter continues today Friday 25, May 2018 at Orogwe Customary Court.
