Chief Okafor Izuogu, has posited that Rt. Hon. Ihedioha, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant should be supported and voted for in 2019. He says that by God’s grace, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha as the executive governor of Imo State will be most beneficial to the people of the state as he has an unflinching faith in the theory and practice of human capital development In the belief that the mother of all empowerments is the enhancement of the skills acquisition and vocational training of young people in any society.
Ozuome said that Rt. Hon Ihedioha in his twelve years sojourn at the National Assembly took up human capital development as his flagship project. According to him, Ihedioha has what it takes to sponsor the training of thousands of youths and women in modern skills and provide them with starter packs and basic tools with takeoff grants than distribute materials and money to few people. This is based on his belief in the philosophy that says if you teach a person how to fish you feed him forever. Ozuome believes it is against this background that Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha will remain the best person to replicate this kind of feat given his unrelenting efforts and belief in human resource development and empowerment programmes needed in Imo State. For instance, between November 3-5, 2012 at the Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, Imo State, Rt. Hon, Emeka Ihedioha partnered the National Root Crops for search Institute, Umudike, Abia State to provide empowerment training for 700 women and youth from 305 wards of Imo State. After the training, each participant was given improved cassava stems and the sum of N20,000 as starter pack. In 2015, he equally organized training workshop for Imo journalists that lasted 3days to sharpen their knowledge and skills in the media profession.
He said that from January to March 2013 at the Institute’s Complex in Enugu, Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha collaborated with Scientific Engineering Development Institute, Enugu, Enugu State, and sponsored the training of 17 engineering students from Imo State. The participants were provided accommodation and feeding for the three months duration of the training. For three weeks, from November 30 to December 20, 2013, Rt. Emeka Ihedioha sponsored skills acquisition and empowerment training programme for 500 women and youths in Imo State. The training was facilitated by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) at Villa Maria Centre, Wetheral Road, Owerri, Imo State. The participants were trained in the area of computer engineering, barbing, cosmetics making, driving, catering and other skills. The 500 beneficiaries were paid allowances during the training with bank accounts opened for them for further regular stipend deposits to start them up on a good footing. At the end of the training, basic tools required for self-employment on the skills they were trained on were presented to the beneficiaries; most of whom are still in business today.
He further revealed that there was another training programme that Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha sponsored which included the one on production of various cosmetics products for 50 women and youths from the 27 LGAs of Imo State, He said the programme was held for two days, October 11-12, 2013 at Dreamland Hotel, Owerri, and was facilitated by PRODA, Enugu State. “The participants were trained to produce Izal, soaps, odour control liquids, body cream etc”. “At the end of the training, each participant received grants. Most of the beneficiaries are still doing business in the areas they were trained till today”.
According to him, another set of 100 women and youths were trained in the business of fisheries and feed making for two days, November 16-17, 2013 at The Mali, Aladinma, Owerri, Imo State. It was facilitated by the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology, Lagos. In the programme about 100 participants got N20,000 each. For two months, November to December, 2013 at Outreach Centres in Orlu, Owerri, and Okigwe, precisely, at Federal Medical Centre (FMC), St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Itu Ezinihitte LGA and St. Patrick’s Catholic Parish, Mbutu Okohia, Umuhu Ngor Okpaia, for Owerri Zone; Mbano Joint Hospital, Ehime Mbano for Okigwe Zone. And Federal Medical Centre, Outreach Centre, Izombe, Oguta LGA for Orlu Zone, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha sponsored a Free Eye Care treatment programme for Imo State, A total of 2859 patients were diagnosed and treated.
