Pay us over 50 months arrears, pensioners tell Rochas

Imo pensioners under the aegis of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, have raised alarm over what they described as “recent announcement of Imo State Government on its decision to remove all allowances that form part of pensions”
NUP in a release signed by its state chairman, Chief James Osuigwe, and Principal State Secretary, Evangelist Livinus Asiegbu, Thursday in Owerri, the union reminded Governor Rochas Okorocha that the judgment of the National Industrial Court which according to them bared the “Imo State Government or any of the defendants” not to withhold any part of the pensions of any retired civil servant and also “declared the 40% payments as null and void and ultra vires”
The pensioners also noted “the said announcement purporting to remove allowances in pensions amounts to contempt of court and breach of the verdict of the National Industrial Court”.
While disclosing that pensioners in Imo were owed arrears by the present Governor Okorocha-led APC government ranging from “47-59 months” for IBC pensioners, “45-63” months for retired primary school pensioners and “33 months” for retired civil service pensioners among others, NUP regretted that under Governor Okorocha, the issue of gratuities has been forgotten except “few whose gratuity was below N500, 00.
The union reminded Governor Okorocha that the issue of pensions was a constitutional matter which ought not to be tampered with.
Imo pensioners also declared as a big lie,  what they alleged as claims by the Imo State Government that it has cleared all pensions and gratuities owed to pensioners in the state  and demanded the immediate payment of 100 percent of their pensions which according to them, is already cunning into several years.
