The leading aspirant under the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the race to represent Owerri Zone at the senate, Chief Mike Nwachukwu has formerly informed the people of old Owerri LGA of his intention to be at the senate come 2019.
The declaration which took place last Monday at the Owerri North LGA APGA party office at Awaka town witnessed a massive turn out of leaders and people of Owerri North, Owerri West, Owerri Municipal and Ngor-Okpala LGAs which make up old Owerri LGA as well as many leaders of the party at various levels.
Addressing the audience, Chief Mike Nwachukwu who was the state secretary of APGA for six years (2005-2011) informed that his senatorial ambition was borne out of infrastructural deficit visible all over Owerri zone arising from very poor legislative representation at the senate.
The former APGA state secretary and former banker stressed that his desire was not borne out of selfish consideration but rather to bridge the infrastructural gap in Owerri Zone noting that through ”robust legislative activism” he would ensure that appropriate government agencies and international organizations were attracted to Owerri Zone.
Chief Nwachukwu wondered why previous senators of Owerri /one had failed to make life good for the people. He promised to constantly communicate with his people through a vibrant legislative office, personal contacts and visitation to all the communities in the zone.
The senatorial hopeful also promised to work for the growth of APGA at all levels and packaging it to stand out in Nigeria, saying that the opposition would soon be crippled and paralysed in the state.
In her speech, a member of board of trustees (BOT) Mrs. Ann Dozie urged Chief Mike Nwachukwu to be of good courage stating that APGA would conduct a free and fair primary election and set a record in the state.
She noted that APGA has not adopted any candidate and would not, saying that Chief Nwachukwu had the capacity to represent Owerri Zone.
Mrs. Dozie harped on the need to obtain PVC which she described as the power to vote in any candidate, adding that government is too big and could accommodate all people. Also speaking. a party leader and National Assistant Organizing Secretary, Chief John Iwuala lamented poor representation of Owerri Zone in Abuja. He urged Chief Nwachukwu that if elected, he should work for creation of more polling booths in Owerri Zone, urging him not to allow his tongue to be tied down because of juicy allurement. Chief Iwuala also urged him to be visible and be a strong voice for Owerri people in Abuja.
The Director General of Chief Mike Nwachukwu’s campaign team. Mr. Bede Oduoza stated that Owerri people had decided that Chief Mike Nwachukwu should go to the senate observing that he had the needed capacity and also accessible.
He also said that people of Mbaitoli and Ikeduru LGAs had decided that any gubernatorial aspirant from the two LGAs should queue behind Chief Nwachukwu now that the senate seat will be vacant in 2019.
