Commercial and social activity was grounded to a halt today as Commercial Motorcycle ridders, popularly known as Okada painted Okigwe red as they rolled out the carpets in solidarity with the Local Government Chairman, Ilochonwu Bennett.
The Okada ridders who closed shop at about 9am stormed the council headquarters in their numbers chanting solidarity songs in thunderous voices that rented the air for hours.
Leader of the group, Felix Nwadike while addressing the Council Boss and his entourage showered praises on him for fostering peace among feuding members of their union, ensuring adequate security in the area and improving the aesthetic beauty of the council.
Furthermore, they gave him thumbs up for restructuring Eke Okigwe market and improving the sanitary state of Okigwe.
They described the Okigwe boss as a veritable epitome of humility, patriotism and humanity with untapped political potentials.
Concluding, the unanimously passed a vote of confidence on him and called on him to run for the Executive Chairmanship position in the forthcoming Council polls and promised to deliver him hundred percent.
Replying, Ilochonwu Bennett popularly known as Ben2Ben expressed his profound gratitude to Governor Rochas Okorocha for his appointment and charged the motorcycle operators to continue supporting the Rescue-Mission government and deliver Ugwumba Uche Nwosu as the next governor of the State.
He reaffirmed his commitment towards deepening democratic dividends in Okigwe and Imo at large.
Ilochonwu Bennett was accompanied by his political supporters and Hausa leader in Okigwe as the convoy drove through Owerri road, the commercial nerve center of the ancient city.
